The importance of a profile picture, particularly a well shot picture, on your LinkedIn profile cannot be understated. First Impressions First impressions are everything with studies suggesting that 55 percent of first impressions are made by what we see. This figure alone is enough to make you understand the importance of social media headshots and how [...]

The answer is that there is no real difference and people will make judgements based on what is in [...]

An interview with Becs Bate – Social Media Trainer

By |2020-10-12T08:09:16+00:00September 12th, 2020|Uncategorized|

Last month I was invited by Becs Bate, Social Media Executive, to join her in one of her Monday livestreams to reveal ‘What Makes A Great LinkedIn Profile Picture’. This took me out of my comfort zone; it’s a common myth that photographers are comfortable on the other side of the lens – I’m like you, I notice things that others don’t – in this instance I realised that I wriggle about way too much. But it was a great experience, it does me good to put myself in the shoes of those who choose me to take [...]

A lovely experience with Just Headshots

By |2020-11-19T16:37:24+00:00September 12th, 2020|Uncategorized|

Recently Angela Langley came to see us for new headshots. When we chatted on the phone she said she was dreading it but needed to get it done. We had a lot of fun doing the session and she wrote this lovely testimonial for us after she had received her photos. What she has written will strike a chord with many people who feel like she did. It took a lot of courage to have these headshots done.  I needed new headshots, I’d avoided that ‘nightmare’ for ten years but I had [...]

Which country has the worst LinkedIn headshots?

By |2020-11-19T16:38:41+00:00September 12th, 2020|Uncategorized|

Apparently it’s Israel Israel came bottom in a list of 25 countries with a score of 66.39%. Chile came top with a score of 69.88%. But we can’t be too smug in the UK; we came in at 22nd on the list. The report was put together by photography portal, Snappr, which analysed facial expressions, smiles, cropping, backgrounds, editing, use of colour amongst other things. And guess what? The smile analyser marks you down if you don’t use a neutral background AND if you don’t show your teeth! This really struck a chord with me because so many of [...]

How others see us v how we see ourselves

By |2020-11-19T16:37:49+00:00September 12th, 2020|Uncategorized|

Or, is that really how good I look? I was reading Donald Miller’s excellent book recently, ‘Building A Story Brand’. In it he refers to a famous marketing campaign for Dove soap. The concept of the campaign is that other people see a beauty in us which we don’t see ourselves. The campaign was launched in the US in 2013 and featured the work of a FBI trained forensic artist. Several women sat where he couldn’t see them and they were asked to describe themselves to him whilst he sketched what they told him. He did [...]

How should you use headshots on your website?

By |2020-09-09T11:51:37+00:00September 3rd, 2020|Headshots|

Headshots are in integral part of any website. Whether you’re an SME, large corporation or sole trader, you will want to represent yourself in the best light by humanising your brand. Image is everything, and using headshots of you and your team on your website will assist in highlighting who you are while at the same time reflecting your company's values. Personalisation During a digital age when we are spending less time meeting in person and more time online, the importance of the ‘personal touch’ cannot be overstated. Whether you’re a small start-up with your first website or a large multinational [...]

Are cheap headshots worth the risk?

By |2020-10-15T11:18:14+00:00September 3rd, 2020|Headshots|

We’ve all heard the phrase: ‘You get what you pay for’, and for good reason. When you want a headshot, whether it is for your website, marketing materials, LinkedIn or anything in between, it is tempting to choose the cheapest option. It’s easy to slip into the mindset of: ‘How hard can it be to take a photo?’, but until you’ve had a bad headshot, you wont realise the value of paying the right price. A photo is no longer simply that, particularly when it comes to creating a first impression in business, and the consequences of cutting costs for [...]

How to take natural looking headshots

By |2020-09-09T11:51:11+00:00September 3rd, 2020|Hints & Tips|

The best headshots accomplish one key goal; highlighting the subject’s face in a natural setting. Natural-looking headshots allow people to get a glimpse of your personality before they meet you, and with the right expression and pose, you can convey the right message. Three key elements combine to make a headshot appear as natural as possible; lighting, makeup and posture. Lighting Lighting is one of the most important elements in creating a natural-looking headshot. Natural light is the preference for every photographer because it creates the perfect setting in achieving a well-lit headshot (provided the subject is not stood in direct sunlight). However, on [...]

Why should you hire a professional headshot photographer?

By |2020-07-31T06:35:23+00:00July 29th, 2020|Photography|

When it comes to picking out a headshot for your business or personal use, it can sometimes be hard to justify the additional expense that a professional photographer adds. With a camera phone in everyone’s pocket, it can seem easy to take a snap yourself and cut out the middleman. And while this is possible, it is rarely ever advisable. So, why should you consider hiring a professional headshot photographer and what additional value does securing one add to your session? What does a professional photographer do? In addition to pressing the button on their camera…quite a bit. A professional photographer [...]
